President Barack Obama Dances with Thalia US President Barack Obama a Fiesta Latina performance at the White House on Tuesday night. The highlight of the White House Fiesta Latina night was when Barack Obama danced a salsa with Latin pop star Thalia. Thalia was performing a song when she worked her way over to Obama's table and the President stands up and briefly dances for about five seconds. Some viewers were more interested in Michelle Obama's reaction to the Obama salsa. While Michelle Obama clapped during his brief salsa dance, cameras captured President Obama trying to talk to Michelle and she appears to be ignoring him. Of course, the brief clip leads some to speculate that Michelle was none too pleased with Obama's brief foray into latin dance. He suggested that high-speed trains wouldn't include them. In the first sense of this joke, it is not clear if they will really build these trains, but there are already plans laid by Homeland Security to deploy TSA screening, VIPR detection squads and mobile x-ray scanners at bus and train stations, highway checkpoints, sports stadiums and shopping malls-- all in spite of public outcry over invasive "pat-downs" and excessive security checks. New waves of scanning technology could become so ubiquitous that debates and protests over pat-downs or opt-outs may well become a thing of the past. Even as President Obama maintains close to 50000 troops in Iraq and continues to escalate and expand the war in Afghanistan, the antiwar movement in America continues to shrink. So, what happened? Reason.tv visited two antiwar protests—one left-leaning, one libertarian—in an attempt to answer that question. Author and historian Thaddeus Russell and Reason Senior Editor Brian Doherty also weigh in. War, it seems, is a bipartisan venture, which is reflected by the fact that Democrats have a favorable view of Obama's foreign policy, despite its remarkable similarity to George W. Bush's foreign policy. And though there have been rumblings of antiwar sentiment from some on the Right, Republicans remain strongly in favor of an interventionist foreign policy. Although public sentiment is turning against the war in Afghanistan, the always-shifting withdrawal deadlines and the unwillingness to touch defense spending mean that this bipartisan war is likely to continue far into the future.
