Работы над газопроводом начались ещё летом прошлого года, но были остановлены из-за начавшихся в Сирии беспорядков. Трубопровод протяженностью в 1500 км должен обеспечить доставку иранского газа в Дамаск. Некоторые считают, что именно этот проект, равно как и проект «Арабского газопровода» из Египта в Сирию стал причиной развязанного против неё террора. Кому же так помешали трубы? На самом деле никому. Трубы будут построены в любом случае, вопрос только в том, кто будет участвовать в проекте. По одному из замыслов, поступающий на территорию Сирии газ будет далее через Средиземное море поставляться в Европу. Это делает правительство Сирии важной фигурой в схеме, так как именно оно будет сидеть на вентиле. Башар Асад в силу многих причин не устраивал арабских и западных властителей в качестве такой кандидатуры. Поэтому задача его замены на подконтрольное правительство и является для них первостепенной. Другой вариант предполагает отправку газа из Сирии в Европу не через море, а по земле через Турцию. Анкара, естественно, настаивает именно на таком варианте, так как в нём посидеть на вентиле удастся и ей. Этим во многом объясняется иррациональная агрессивность Турции в отношении ближайшего соседа. Боевики концентрируются здесь и призывают единомышленников в провинцию для формирования новых отрядов. По замыслу вся приграничная территория должна перейти под контроль повстанцев. Проживающие здесь курды долгое время не могли договориться о том, на чьей стороне выступать -- поддерживать Асада или подняться за боевиков. Однако приход наёмников-исламистов, кажется, расставил всё по своим местам. Известно, что курдские отряды на неделе неоднократно вступали в бой с боевиками т.н. Свободной сирийской армии. Более того, крупнейшие организации курдов, наконец, договорились о создании объединенных вооруженных сил для защиты курдских районов Сирии. Если в дело вступят курды Ирака, то это может внести существенные коррективы в течение конфликта, так как курдская «Пешмерга» - это не просто отряды самообороны, а хорошо вооружённая армия численностью не менее 60 тыс. человек. Турция, являющаяся давним и непримиримым врагом курдов, имеет в этой ситуации свой резон -- усмирить курдские приграничные районы Сирии. Именно поэтому Анкара оказывает всевозможное содействие боевикам. По этой же причине Турция, как и предполагалось, обратилась к НАТО с официальной просьбой о размещении комплексов Patriot на границе.
